Food + Photos

Sometimes I like to play with my food. It's something I often remind my son + other small children not to do.

I suppose that makes me a bit of a hypocrite. "Do as I say, not as I do." Parenting: 101.

Weekends are for relaxing. What better way to relax than an adult beverage (or two)  and some fancy cheese + sweets?

If like me, you're interested in diving face first into some delicious molten brie + wine, never fear I've got you covered with my loose take on this super simple recipe that has been making the internet rounds:

Baked Brie with Pears +Walnuts:

1 small wheel of Brie ("baby Brie" or Camembert if Brie is unavailable)
2-3 tbsps cane or brown sugar
2-3 tbsp apple juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 small pears, thinly sliced
1tbsp chopped dried cranberries
2-3 tbsp chopped walnuts.

Pre-heat your oven to 350F

*Gradually combine sugar & apple juice to make a 'syrup' of medium viscosity (neither too watery or too paste-like)

*add spices (to taste. should be fragrant) mix well.

*Place brie in an oven safe dish and drizzle lightly with syrup. Arrange pears on top of the cheese as desired and drizzle lightly with syrup.

*Mix walnuts and cranberries in the remaining syrup until fully coated. Pour/spread remainder on top of pears.

*Bake for 20-30minutes or until bubbly and melted. Let sit 1-2 minutes before serving.
